Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 replaces the previous Battery Directive, setting comprehensive and binding requirements for all batteries placed on the European Union market. This aims to ensure environmental sustainability and circular economy integration.

• Carbon Footprint Declaration: Mandatory carbon footprint declarations and performance classes for EV, LMT, and industrial batteries.
• Recycled Content Minimums: Strict targets for recovering materials like cobalt, lead, lithium, and nickel from waste batteries.
• Battery Passport & Traceability: Industrial and EV batteries must feature an electronic "Battery Passport" with detailed lifecycle and material information.
• Safety and Labelling: Enhanced safety requirements for stationary energy storage systems and clearer labelling (including QR codes) for capacity, durability, and hazardous substances.
