EN 60529 is the European adoption of the IP-code enclosure classification, defining protection against access, solid foreign objects, and harmful water ingress under standardized arrangements.
When it matters
Use it when European documentation, procurement, or another standard requires an IP level; the code should reflect credible installation exposure and does not cover all hazards or reliability mechanisms.

- Solid-object and water digits are separate categories.
- Results apply only to the evaluated configuration and condition.
